Books – Food for Soul and Body #2 #health

Dear Reader,

As promised, please find below some books I recently studied about our body and how we actual live in it. I am not a MD, nor do I wish to give any recommendation or advice. With the following books, I wish to raise awareness about the fact that we can take control of our health by firstly paying attention to our body and how we actually feel physically. Health encompasses more than just physical health but this post only handles the physical part.

These books describe a lot of causes for health concerns and provide solutions as well. I have taken information from them to get to know myself and my body better. Self-awareness is my primary message to you.

  1. Why We Get Sick by Benjamin Bikman.

I enjoy the way the author describes the complex processes that are going on in our bodies and how these influence each other. It is really nice to learn from this book how I actually function physically. Moreover, it offers natural ways to improve our health. Because it is in our control how we manage our intake (of food, thoughts, etc.), which affects our overall health.

From amazon: A scientist reveals the groundbreaking evidence linking many major diseases, including cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease, to a common root cause—insulin resistance—and shares an easy, effective plan to reverse and prevent it.

2. The Mineral Fix by James DiNicolantonio and Siim Land.

I find it worthwhile to be informed about what we are made up from, like cells, organisms and … minerals, yes. From the ground and back into the ground. I appreciate those who do the long studies to actually analyze the body’s stocks of minerals. The authors describe in an understandable manner how all is connected. This book complements the first one very nicely.

From Amazon: Micronutrient deficiencies are widespread across the globe in both developed and developing countries. These deficiencies pose a serious threat to long-term health and longevity. Deficiencies in key minerals, such as magnesium and potassium, increase the risk of chronic diseases. The Mineral Fix is a comprehensive guide about the role of essential minerals in the human diet. It includes information on all 17 of the essential minerals that humans need for proper physiological function and survival as well as the 5 possibly essential minerals that also have an important role in overall health.

3. The Blood Sugar Solution by Dr. Mark Hyman.

I actually found this book first and I felt a bit overwhelmed by all the information. Nevertheless, taking it step by step, this book really tackles the areas of life that influence our health and well-being. Taking small steps in each area can contribute to changes in our bodies and to a cleansing process in order to get in a well being state. This books tackles the main challenge for our entire health, similar to Ben Bikman’s book, namely the role of insulin in our body.

From Amazon: In The Blood Sugar Solution, Dr. Mark Hyman reveals that the secret solution to losing weight and preventing not just diabetes but also heart disease, stroke, dementia, and cancer is balanced insulin levels. Dr. Hyman describes the seven keys to achieving wellness — nutrition, hormones, inflammation, digestion, detoxification, energy metabolism, and a calm mind — and explains his revolutionary six-week healthy-living program.

I hope you enjoy paying attention to your body and physical health.
